MFA submits letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary on OFR Repo Reporting Rule

MFA submitted a comment letter to U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent seeking relief from the Office of Financial Research (OFR) repo reporting rule. A delay and review of the rule is necessary to comply with the recent Executive Order to freeze new regulation pending review.

The letter requests:

  • A one-year extension, until March 1, 2026, of the compliance deadline for buy-side entities that exceed the reporting threshold.
  • That OFR review and reconsider the rule to eliminate the repo reporting obligation for buy-side entities, or at a minimum, easing the reporting burden for these entities.
