MFA names Bryson Kern as Vice President & Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs

NEW YORK, NY — MFA announced today that Bryson Kern has joined the association as Vice President & Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs. Kern will lead MFA’s tax advocacy, working with members, policymakers, and regulators on legislative and regulatory developments affecting the alternative asset management industry.

“Bryson brings extensive tax law experience and a deep understanding of the issues facing alternative asset managers,” said Jennifer Han, MFA Chief Legal Officer and Head of Global Regulatory Affairs. “His technical expertise will strengthen MFA’s advocacy as we work to advance pro-growth tax policies that support investment and efficient capital markets.”

Prior to joining MFA, Kern served as a Tax Knowledge Management Attorney at McDermott Will & Schulte LLP, where he provided legal analysis and technical guidance, monitored developments in tax law, and developed resources for attorneys advising investment funds. Previously, he spent approximately a decade at predecessor firm Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP, where he advised clients on a wide range of federal tax matters, with a particular focus on investment funds and alternative asset management structures.

“Tax policy has significant implications for markets, investors, and economic growth,” said Bryan Corbett, MFA President and CEO. “Bryson further strengthens MFA’s industry-leading tax expertise, informing our work on some of the most consequential issues facing our industry.”

Kern earned an Executive LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
