Bryson Kern

Bryson Kern is MFA’s Vice President & Senior Counsel, Regulatory Affairs. In this role, Bryson supports the association’s tax policy and advocacy efforts, working with members, policymakers, and regulators on legislative and regulatory developments affecting the alternative asset management industry. He also contributes to MFA’s broader regulatory affairs initiatives and member engagement activities.

Prior to joining MFA, Bryson was a Tax Knowledge Management Attorney at McDermott Will & Schulte LLP, where he supported the firm’s tax practice through legal analysis, technical guidance, monitoring of developments in tax law, and the development of practice resources for attorneys advising investment funds. Before that, he spent about a decade at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP advising clients on a wide range of federal tax matters, with particular experience relating to investment funds and alternative asset management structures. He has advised asset managers on a variety of investment programs, fund structures, and transactions, representing alternative asset managers in connection with the formation and ongoing operations of investment funds, as well as collateralized loan obligation (CLO) issuances.  

Bryson earned an Executive LL.M. in Taxation from New York University School of Law and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law.
