Nicolò Bertoncello is MFA’s Vice President, Head of EU Government Affairs.
Based in Brussels, he leads the association’s advocacy and engagement with EU institutions and member states. He works closely with policymakers and regulators to advance MFA’s mission of promoting efficient, transparent, and resilient capital markets that support long-term economic growth.
Before joining MFA, Nicolò worked in the European Parliament, leading legislative negotiations on several high-profile financial services dossiers. His efforts were instrumental in advancing the EU’s capital markets agenda, particularly in trading and post-trading, and pivotal in laying the groundwork for Europe’s first ticker tape. He also provided strategic advice and policy input on international trade and intellectual property.
Nicolò’s policymaking experience is further strengthened by previous roles at the strategic communications consultancy Kreab, where he advised financial institutions on EU regulatory developments, political risk, and advocacy strategy. He began his career at the OECD in Paris, working on international taxation matters, and at L’Oréal, gaining cross-sector experience in policy analysis, communications, and market strategy.
Nicolò holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Sciences Po, a Master’s in Management from Bocconi University, and a degree in International Relations and Politics from Cardiff University. He speaks English, Italian, Spanish, and French.
