Munir Alam

Founder, Managing Partner and Chief Investment Officer

Munir Alam is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Sentinel Dome Partners, an industry focused firm that invests across the capital structure, with expertise in software, communications infrastructure, services, and consumer facing businesses that are enabled by technology. SDP was founded in 2014 and manages ~$1.1bn in AUM, primarily on behalf of pension funds, endowments and foundations, and family offices.

 

Prior to SDP, Mr. Alam was Co-Portfolio Manager and Managing Member of Watershed Asset Management (“Watershed”), an event-driven credit biased firm with over $1.2 billion in assets under management.  At Watershed, he was jointly responsible for portfolio construction, and had primary sector responsibility over Technology, Media, Telecommunications, Business Services and Industrials.  He joined Watershed in July 2005 and was promoted to Managing Member in January 2009.

 

Prior to Watershed, Mr. Alam was a Summer Associate at Longacre Management in 2004.  He was also an Associate at Nautic Partners (“Nautic”) from 2001 to 2003.  Prior to Nautic, he was an Analyst in the investment banking Media and Telecommunications groups at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette/CSFB from 1999 to 2001.

 

Mr. Alam received an M.B.A. with High Distinction from Harvard Business School in 2005 where he was named a Baker Scholar.  He earned a B.A., Summa Cum Laude, in Economics with a minor in Physics from Middlebury College in 1999 and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Garrett Berg

Garrett Berg joined ExodusPoint at launch and is President & Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee. He oversees all non-investment related activities. Prior to joining ExodusPoint, Garrett was the Global Head of Marketing and Investor Relations for Hoplite Capital Management.  Before joining Hoplite, Garrett was the Global Head of Marketing and Investor Relations for BlueCrest Capital Management, and he was also a member of the firm’s Global Operating Committee.  Earlier in his career, he worked in the financial services group of the management consultancy Oliver Wyman.  Garrett holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Providence College.

Kalina Berova

Ms. Kalina Berova has over 20 years of investment and risk management experience. Currently, Ms. Berova is a Managing Director in the Partnership Portfolio of BCI. In her role, she is responsible for fund investments and co-investments across a broad range of private credit, structured credit and market neutral hedge fund strategies. With more than $200 billion in assets under management, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) invests on behalf of BC’s public sector. Previously, Kalina was a visiting researcher at Bodhi Research Group where she consulted institutional investors on best co-investment practices, alternative portfolio benchmarking, hedge fund diligence, etc. Prior to that, Kalina was a member of the External Relationships Team of OMERS, where she gained investment experience across various traditional and niche hedge fund strategies, custom alternative investment solutions, and private equity funds & co-investments. Ms. Berova began her career at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan in the Asset Mix and Risk Group, where she developed expertise in portfolio construction and risk management of both alternative and traditional asset classes and investment strategies.

Kevin Blank

Kevin is an analyst for the Private Markets and Funds Alpha Division at the State of Wisconsin Investment Board (SWIB) located in Madison, Wisconsin. SWIB oversees approximately $150 billion in assets which includes the Wisconsin Retirement System Trust Funds. Kevin is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and implementing external investment managers across both traditional and alternative investment strategies. Prior to joining SWIB, Kevin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in finance from Marquette University.

Nick Bonamo

He was formerly a Vice President in the Quantitative Investment Strategies Group at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he co-managed the trading team. At both Kepos and Goldman, Nick’s responsibilities have included the architecture, operation, and measurement of the systems and processes required to efficiently transact in a wide variety of global public markets. Nick graduated in 2002 with a B.S. in Finance from Boston College.

Chiki Brahm is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Tessellis Capital. Prior to founding Tessellis, Mrs. Brahm was a Portfolio Manager at Citadel Global Equities where she built and managed a $1 billion portfolio. Prior to that, she spent five years at Marshall Wace where she co-founded a $5bn generalist strategy investing primarily in the Industrials, Consumer, TMT, and Business Services sectors. Previously, she was an Analyst at Hoplite Capital covering the Consumer, TMT, and Industrials sectors. Before that, Mrs. Brahm was a Private Equity Associate at The Carlyle Group within the U.S. Buyout Fund. She started her career at Goldman Sachs as an Investment Banking Analyst in the Financial Institutions Group. Mrs. Brahm earned her A.B. from Harvard College with high honors in Economics and a secondary concentration in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

Michael Cash

Mike Cash is the CIO of Manteio Capital and a Founding Partner. During a career spanning over 30 years, Mike has developed trading strategies and teams of traders on both the buy side and sell side. Prior to founding Manteio Capital, Mike was the Global Head of Fixed Income for Credit Suisse Asset Management’s Quantitative Trading (QT) group. Prior to this, he was CIO of Westfield Research and also a founding partner and head trader for various hedge fund firms. He previously spent time at Credit Suisse proprietary trading where he ran US Rates Trading within the Global Arbitrage Group, and at Prudential Insurance where he ran the core liquidity treasury position for the firm. He began his career at Salomon Brothers as a bond trader. Mike received a BS in Computer Science from The University of Stony Brook and an MBA from Columbia Business School, graduating in the top 5% of his class (Beta Gamma Sigma).

Juliette Cottrill

Ms. Cottrill is a Partner and Head of Investor Relations and Business Development at Hudson Bay. Prior to joining Hudson Bay in 2009, she worked with the founder of FrontPoint Partners in building a new investment management firm, Duff Capital Advisors, where she co-headed the Client Advisory Group. Before joining Duff Capital in October 2007, Ms. Cottrill was a Vice President at FrontPoint Partners from 2005 to 2007, specializing in a number of sector-specific long/short equity managers, as well as having prime responsibility for the Australian institutional market. Previously, Ms. Cottrill was a member of the Investor Relations team at Paloma Partners Management Company from 2002 to 2005 where she worked with the U.S. high net worth and institutional markets. She began her career in 1999 with Barclays Private Banking in London and New York, working on brand development and relationship management. Ms. Cottrill graduated from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland with an MA in Political Science.

Kerry Dolan

Kerry Dolan is the Founder and Managing Partner of Brinley Partners (“Brinley”) and is the Chair of the Investment Committee. Prior to founding the firm in 2021, Kerry was a Managing Director on the Credit Investments team at the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (“PSP Investments”). She was one of the founding members of the private credit business at PSP Investments and had various responsibilities during her tenure there, including risk, underwriting, origination and portfolio management. Prior to joining PSP Investments, Kerry held a number of senior positions in Leveraged Finance and Coverage at Goldman Sachs, Barclays Capital and Bank of America, where she managed all phases of financings, from origination to execution, documentation and closing. She has over 25 years of investing and leveraged finance experience.

Kerry is an Associate Board Member of the Melanoma Research Alliance and a Co-Chair of the Leveraged Finance Fights Melanoma event, an annual fundraising event that raises funds for melanoma research from the leveraged finance and private equity community. Kerry holds a Bachelor of Arts in Finance from Boston College and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management, where she was a Park Leadership Fellow.

Alex Duran

Prior to co-founding Permian, Alex worked at Brahman Capital as an Investment Analyst from Fall 2005 until founding Permian.  Brahman Capital is a multi-billion dollar hedge fund that was founded over twenty years ago. Prior to joining Brahman, Alex was an Investment Banking Analyst at Goldman Sachs.  He graduated with Highest Honors from The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a BBA in both Honors Business and Finance. Alex is the Vice-Chairman of Portfolios with Purpose, a charity that hosts an annual stock selection competition in which participants compete on behalf of their favorite charities.

Jens Foehrenbach

Previously, Jens was the Chief Investment Officer of Man Solutions and has served in several capacities Man Group’s multi-manager businesses, including Head of Equity and Credit strategies.

Prior to joining Man Group in 2008, Jens spent four years at Harcourt Investment Consulting AG, where he was style head of relative value equity strategies. Before that, he was employed by UBS AG, where he worked on the bank’s fixed income derivatives trading desk in Switzerland and London.

Jens holds a Master’s degree in Business Economics from the University of Basel, Switzerland (lic. rer. pol.). He is also a CFA charterholder.

Wei Liu

Wei Liu is a Partner at Clocktower Group and oversees the firm’s initiatives in China. Wei joined Clocktower Group in 2011, initially focusing on risk management for Clocktower’s macro hedge fund investing. In 2018, Wei became a Partner, managing the investment due diligence for Clocktower’s seeding platform and advising global clients on their hedge fund portfolios across asset classes. Simultaneously, Wei established Clocktower’s China business, opening an office and building a team in Shanghai. Wei splits his time between our Santa Monica and Shanghai offices and travels extensively through China, fostering relationships across the financial services space with a special focus on public markets fund managers as well as corporates and government. Wei also serves as a member of the Asia committee for the Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI).
Wei graduated from the University of Southern California in 2009, with a Master of Science degree in Mathematical Finance. He received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Fudan University in Shanghai, China. Prior to this, at the age of 16, Wei received first prize of the National Mathematical Olympiad competition in China. Derek Lublin

Derek Lublin is Senior Director in the Global Alpha group at the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments). Based in New York, Mr. Lublin’s responsibilities are focused on external manager investments, including fund and special investment opportunities. Mr. Lublin identifies and evaluates managers, strategies, and co-investment opportunities globally across asset classes, and designs portfolios to meet the organization’s return, risk, and liquidity objectives.

Prior to joining PSP Investments, Mr. Lublin was a Portfolio Manager in the Absolute Return Strategies group at General Motors Asset Management. His primary responsibilities included asset allocation and manager research, selection, and oversight for various General Motors entities.

Mr. Lublin has previous experience with Tribeca Global Management and Citigroup Alternative Investments, a multi strategy hedge fund where he was responsible for manager evaluation, risk management and portfolio construction. Prior to Citigroup, Mr. Lublin founded the investment advisory firm DML Capital Management.

Mr. Lublin received his undergraduate degree from University of Michigan and earned his MBA from Columbia Business School.

Sandeep Ramachandran

Sandeep Ramachandran is a portfolio manager at Pier61 Partners, specializing in insurance-linked securities (ILS). Sandeep is responsible for sourcing, underwriting, and managing the global ILS portfolio including natural catastrophe, weather, energy, agriculture, and other specialty insurance risks. Sandeep has been actively involved in the industry for over 23 years, covering natural catastrophes and specialty insurance underwriting, as well as energy and agricultural commodities, among other sectors. He has held various roles across the industry with a multitude of firms including Berkshire Hathaway Reinsurance, Swiss Re, Axis Capital, Morgan Stanley Commodities, Enron, and Koch Energy Trading. Sandeep has established and led specialty weather-related insurance trading teams at Swiss Re, Axis Capital, and Morgan Stanley. He was also elected to the Board of Directors of the Weather Risk Management Association for multiple terms between 2007–2017. Sandeep received his master’s degree in civil engineering and operations research from Princeton University and his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Dr. Mark Refermat

Mark Refermat serves as Managing Director of Machine Learning Portfolio Strategy for

Voleon. His focus is on increasing clients’ understanding of Voleon’s investment

strategies, and machine learning techniques applied to finance. Dr. Refermat works

closely with the research team in developing strategy analytics and is a member of the

risk committee. Previously, he held a variety of research and client portfolio

management roles over a ten-year career at Man AHL and GAM Systematic.

Prior to Voleon, Dr. Refermat was a Director at GAM Systematic, where he educated

clients on quantitative strategies. Prior to GAM, he spent eight years at Man AHL,

where, initially, he built quantitative multi-asset strategies. Later, he was made a

Principal with responsibility for educating clients on a range of quantitative techniques.

Prior to Man AHL, Dr. Refermat worked in fixed income trading at Dresdner Kleinwort in

London.

Dr. Refermat completed his Ph.D at EHDEC with a focus on cross asset class liquidity

and quantitative investment strategies.

He earned his MBA from Cass Business School in London and he holds a BA in

Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He is based in

Berkeley, CA.

Alan Shaffran

Mr. Shaffran runs Magnetar’s European Fixed Income business and the Firm’s London office. He serves on Magnetar’s Management Committee and Investment Committee. Prior to joining Magnetar in 2008, Mr. Shaffran was Global Head of Structuring at Rabobank in London, where he was responsible for Rabobank’s structured products businesses across asset classes ranging from credit and rates to equity and fund derivatives, and was on the Management Team of Rabobank’s Global Financial Markets business. Previously he spent more than 19 years at Citigroup, and its precedent firm, Salomon Brothers, where from 2001 to 2006 he was Managing Director and head of European Credit Derivatives in London. Prior to that, he was a founding member of Salomon Brothers’ Credit Derivatives and Emerging Markets Credit Derivatives trading desks in New York, and had roles in the firm’s Debt Capital Markets and Bond Portfolio Analysis groups. Mr. Shaffran earned a BS in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and a BS in Systems Science and Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Dustin Shapir

In addition to serving on various ad hoc creditor committees, he has led several prominent restructuring cases through his involvement on steering committees, including Talen Energy. Previously, Mr. Shapir was an investment professional at Oak Hill Advisors L.P. for over 11 years where he focused on Leisure, Real Estate, Chemical, Financials, and private investments. Prior to Oak Hill Advisors L.P., Mr. Shapir was an investment banker in the Leveraged Acquisition Finance group at Banc of America Securities.

Mr. Shapir graduated as a Meinig Family Cornell National Scholar and received a B.S., magna cum laude from Cornell University in Applied Economics and Management.

David Sheng

David is a Managing Director on the Portfolio Advisory team and has over 17 years of experience in alternative investments. He is responsible for alternative investment programs in the Americas, including portfolio management and construction, as well as manager evaluation. David leads alternatives coverage for Aksia’s institutional Canadian clients.

Prior to joining Aksia in 2018, David was a Senior Manager Research Analyst at Man FRM focused on sourcing and evaluating alternatives strategies, as well as active portfolio management. Prior to Man FRM, David was a Vice President within the Institutional Sales and Trading business at HSBC, and before that he worked at Morgan Stanley, where he covered institutional clients across the hedge fund, asset management, and sovereign wealth fund universe, with a focus on fixed income and foreign exchange.

David graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Economics and holds an MBA from Columbia University. David was recognized as a 2023 Knowledge Broker by Chief Investment Officer.

Bonnie has been with CPP Investments for 12 years.  Bonnie holds a Masters Degree in Mathematics in Finance from New York University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Toronto.

Anne-Sophie van Royen

Anne-Sophie van Royen serves as Asset Management One USA’s Chief Investment Officer, Quantitative Strategies. She is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm’s quantitative investment programs including the research process, portfolio management and trade execution. Dr. van Royen manages AMO USA’s quantitative investment team. Prior to joining AMO, Ms. van Royen worked at la Caisse de Depot et Placement du Quebec in Montreal, first as Head of Global Tactical Asset Allocation then as Head of Quantitative Equity. Prior to CDPQ she served for 4 years as an Advisor in the Managing Director’s Office at the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, covering all matters pertaining to Tactical Asset Allocation. She was previously Head of Global Tactical Asset Allocation at Credit Suisse Asset Management in New York between 2004 and 2011. She began her career in Mergers and Acquisitions with Goldman Sachs in London.

Ms. van Royen hold a Ph.D and M.Sc in Mathematical Economics from the University of Paris – Sorbonne. She also holds a B.A in Psychology and an M.A. in Business from HEC Paris. She has published articles in a variety of professional investment journals, including the Financial Analysts Journal, Journal of Portfolio Management, Journal of Derivatives and Journal of Forecasting. She is a Past President of the Society of Quantitative Analysts in New York and served as an advisor in the Department of Mathematics at the New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Art Vinokur

Art Vinokur is a managing director and portfolio manager at K2 Advisors, overseeing the firm’s investments in Corporate and Structured Credit, Relative Value, and Event Driven

strategies on the Investment Management (IM) team. Most recently Mr. Vinokur served as K2’s Head of Global Macro, overseeing the firm’s investments in discretionary and

systematic macro strategies.

Mr. Vinokur has been with K2 Advisors since October 2004, in that time focusing on a variety of strategies including public and private corporate and structured credit; global macro;

equity, activist, and event-driven; fixed income arbitrage, volatility, convertible arbitrage, and other relative value strategies.

Prior to joining K2 Mr. Vinokur interned as a research associate at the University of Maryland Foundation, where he assisted in manager selection and evaluation of the endowment’s

alternative investment portfolio. In 2003 he worked on a consulting project for K2 Advisors, evaluating the effects of hedge funds’ size and age on their performance.

Mr. Vinokur received an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, and graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta

Kappa from McDaniel College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Business Administration. He is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) charterholder.

Mike Woollatt

Mike Woollatt is Managing Director and responsible for all aspects of the Canadian business for Hamilton Lane – one of the largest allocators and investors of private capital in the world.

Prior to joining Hamilton Lane in 2019, Mike was a Director at OMERS pension plan and previously was the CEO of the Canadian Venture Capital and Private Equity Association. He has also co-founded a management consulting firm and has held senior executive roles at a few major Canadian corporations.

Prior to entering the private sector, Mike worked for the Government of Canada, first as a research economist and then as a policy advisor to the Minister of Finance. Mike has also worked overseas as an economist on World Bank funded international development projects and taught economics at the university level. Mike is a frequent commentator in media on the state of the Canadian private capital markets.

Mike holds a Masters in Economics from the University of British Columbia.

Renee Yao

Renee Yao began her career on Wall Street at Citadel, LLC. Later she left Citadel to join WorldQuant, a Millennium Management portfolio manager, as a trader with discretionary trading authority for her own designated account. Subsequently she joined a prop trading firm founded by a former trader of Susquehanna International Group(SIG) where she managed multiple statistical arbitrage portfolios totaling several hundred million USD in gross positions. In early 2015, Renee set up her own firm, Neo Ivy Capital Management, a quantitative hedge fund manager that focuses on trading liquid, publicly traded equity securities via artificial intelligence strategies. Renee was named as “Tomorrow’s Titan” by The Hedge Fund Journal in 2019 and “10 leaders transforming investing in North America” by Business Insider in 2020. Renee has also been interviewed by Bloomberg’s “The Big Take” and the JPM Market Team, highlighting her contributions to artificial intelligence in 2023. Renee holds a M.A in Statistics from Columbia University.

Bonnie Yu, CFA, FRM oversees the development of CDPQ’s external portfolio management program within the Asia-Pacific region.  Ms. Yu joined CDPQ in 2008 and has been based in Singapore from 2015 to 2022. Prior to CDPQ, she worked at Desjardins Securities and HSBC Securities, specializing in public equities and options trading. She originates from Hong Kong and was educated in Quebec, Canada from an early age. Ms. Yu holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Management Information Systems and an MBA in Investment Management from Concordia University.
